Research Statement

Professor Xiong’s research focuses on optical spectroscopy and ultrafast spectroscopy for condensed matter. His main interests include quantum physical properties emerged from quantum confined effect and anisotropy in low-dimensional quantum materials, strong light-matter coupling in such materials, light-induced phenomenon and the resulted new functionalities in photonics and optoelectronics.

1.Semiconductor microcavity enhanced light-matter interactions, exciton polariton Bose-Einstein condensate and lasing, and the ultrafast nonequilibrium dynamics;

2.Ultrafast dynamics of excitons perovskite semiconductors, exciton fine structures, exciton polariton lattices, nonlinear optical properties and polaritonic devices;

3.Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors, van der Waals heterostructures, ultrafast charge and energy transfer dynamics;

4.2D van der Waals heterostructures and their photonics/optoelectronics devices.

Dr Xiong has supervised more than 50 postdoctoral fellows and graduated 20 Ph.D. in the past decade, among them more 9 of them have become faculty or staff in universities or institutions in USA, UK, Belgium, India and Singapore, 32 of them have become faculty in universities or institutions in.

Professor Qihua Xiong has published more than 300 papers,including 4 papers in Nature, 26 papers in Nature sister journals such as Nature Physics、Nature Review Physics, Nature Photonics、Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Chemistry, and Nature Communications. 2 papers in Physical Review Letters, 1 paper in Science and 7 papers in Science Advances, 2 papers in PNAS, 49 papers in Nano Letters and 11 papers in Advanced Materials,which have attracted a total citation of more than 25000 times, with an H-index of 87. He ranked number one in the world by Google Scholar in the field of Semiconductor Optics. He has edited or authored five books or book chapters. He has nine patents pending or licensed in USA, Europe and China.
