Research Interests

Layered materials have attracted extensive research interests due to the intriguing physics and potential applications. In my group, we focus on the growth and electronic structure studies of novel layer materials (including graphene, new transition metal dichalcogenide PtSe2 etc), and hybrid hetero-structures formed by different layered materials (e.g. graphene/h-BN, Bi2Se3/BSCCO). We are interested in the quantum confinement induced effects on the electronic, spin structures and band gap engineering, the coupling between charge and spin as well as proximity effect at the hetero-structure interface. We use various cutting-edge experimental probes to reveal the electronic structure of these advanced materials not only in the equilibrium state, but also to follow its dynamics far away from equilibrium to extract full energy, momentum and time information about electrons in the solids. The ultimate goal is to reach a better understanding of the underlying physics in existing materials, and to provide insights for designing new materials with desired properties.

 


Below are the experimental techniques that we use:

 

  • Ultrafast dynamics and photo induced Floquet band engineering and phase transitions using time resolved APRES

  • Band structure engineering in two-dimensional materials and heterostructures using Nanospot Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (NanoARPES)、MicroARPES and Spin-resolved ARPES (SpinARPES)
